Grand Marais/Gunflint Trail great place to bike

I just had a great three day weekend in the Grand Marais/Gunflint Trail region. My son is working this summer up at Tuscarora Outfitters, and I wanted to visit him. Over the three days I biked 130 miles, did one short hike and a canoe trip.

The visit was fantastic, but I wanted to pass along some other neat things I learned/ experienced. . I stayed one night at the Spruceglenn

Inn/Aspen Inn: The owners are obviously family-friendly in terms of supporting their workers! It was neat to see that the staff was allowed to have their young toddlers around the Aspen Inn. The environment was warm and friendly. . The staff at Superior North Bike Shop saved the day when a cable on my bike broke after Friday’s shakedown ride. Late

Friday afternoon they quickly made the repairs to my bike, and I was back in the saddle for my planned bike ride up the

Gunflint Trail to Tuscarora Lodge on

Saturday (and back on Sunday) . I had two fantastic visits at Trail Center

Lodge. Once for breakfast on Saturday… tasted great after a 29-mile climb from

Lake Superior, and a short stop to grab more fluids on the Sunday bike trip back down to Grand Marais. The staff was super friendly. . Finally, Andy and Sue of Tuscarora Lodge treat their staff like family. They and their children eat all their meals with the staff and even allowed me to eat with the group on Saturday night. Although they don’t serve dinner, I was treated like one of their extended family and joined everyone for homemade pizza night.

After a 50-mile bike ride up from Grand

Marais, I really did not want to get back on my bicycle to go and find some food!

Once again… everyone was super.
