For the second year, Amy Carpenter, 12, of Grand Marais sang the national anthem at the start of the Lutsen 99er mountain bike race.

Just 12 years old, Amy Carpenter of Grand Marais has the confidence of a much older singer. She bravely—and beautifully— sang the national anthem at the start of the June 25 Lutsen 99er mountain bike race event.

Before a crowd of over 1,000 racers, plus friends and family, the event emcee introduced Amy Carpenter of “The Coolest Small Town in America.” As she took the microphone, the crowd was asked to take off their hats—and helmets—for the performance of the Star-Spangled Banner. After the flawless rendition of the anthem, there was a rousing round of applause and cheers.

Amy was asked to sing the national anthem by her teacher Jana Larson, wife of one of the 99er organizers, Mike Larson.

Amy is the daughter of Bryan and Leah Carpenter of Grand Marais.
