Grand Marais gets IRRRB grants

On February 22, the Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB) awarded the City of Grand Marais $100,000 to use for water, sewer, road and site development work for a new public works facility. The grant was part of $2.3 million given throughout the taconite district as part of public works stimulus projects.

Under the innovative academic programming, Cook County School District I.S.D. 166, Aitkin, and Crosby- Ironton joined forces to apply for and receive $500,000 to expand each of the school’s Applied Learning Institute (ALI) programs. This is the first time this program has been offered, and is only available for school districts in the Taconite Assistance Area (TAA) that agree to collaborate with each other. Just how the money will be distributed isn’t known at this time.

Seventeen school districts in northeastern Minnesota participate in the ALI program, which provides cutting edge hands-on training and advanced technology learning while getting college credits. ALI programs use the latest software and hardware as well as state of the art equipment and materials.
