Elvis Presley was at the Grand Marais Garden Club flower show last Saturday. Well, at least his picture and some memorabilia about his life was there. That and a whole lot of memorabilia about the past intermixed with one beautiful flower arrangement after the next.

The annual Grand Marais Garden Show was held Saturday, July 24 in the Cook County Community Center, and it drew a nice crowd of onlookers, many there for inspiration and tips on how to arrange flowers.

The theme of the show was “Oldies and Goodies.” There was an estimated 65 creative arrangements to gaze at and wonder aloud how these folks think of such clever ideas.

“We had 115 who signed the guest book. We were very pleased with the attendance,” said Gerry Grant, one of the committee members who planned the show.

Three generations of one family had flower arrangements on display this weekend. Phylis Anderson, her daughter-in-law Monica Anderson, and Monica’s two little girls, Edith, 5 ¾ and Alma, who is 3 ½.

One of the members said she believes the Grand Marais Flower Club has been in existence for 87 years. A little historical dig and it was found that the Grand Marais Garden Club started in 1934 with Mrs. Francis Fenstad as president. Now that’s what we call a blooming success!
