The annual Fall Fly-In/ Drive-In pancake breakfast will be held Saturday, September 18, 8:00 a.m. to 11a.m., Grand Marais- Cook County Airport. The public is invited to attend. Cost is $10 per person, children 12 and under $4. The event is hosted by the Arrowhead Eagles Aviation Organization and money raised will support the Eagles scholarship program, the airport and promotion of general aviation in our county. Private aircraft will be available on display, along with information on Cook County aviation history, 2020 annual report of the Eagles, a profile of the life of Kathryn Krotz whose father Clarence J. Krotz built the first official airport of Cook County in 1948, information on the history of Skyport Lodge and general county tourism literature. Also available will be aviation career scholarship application forms for the 2022 scholarship cycle, and a drawing of names of 10 youth ages 13-17 for a free one-year subscription to Minnesota Flyer magazine. Door prizes for a free flight the day of the event will also be offered.
Of special interest will be a presentation on planning for a major celebration in 2023 of the County’s aviation history. Included in this is the Eagles partnership with the Cook County Historical Society and Visit Cook County tourism group to promote 75 years of aviation history, 1948 to 2023.
The Arrowhead Eagles, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, is organized exclusively to support Cook County’s airport and aviation tradition through promotion of aviation events, airport enhancements, youth-oriented activities and opportunities, and to encourage community use and a friendly atmosphere at the airport.
