The crowd was huge and expectant as the 2009 Fourth of July parade rolled through downtown Grand Marais, kids with outstretched arms hoping candy would be thrown their way. Making up for its small size, the parade went through town twice, as any good small-town parade would do. Winning the Chamber of Commerce awards for most patriotic and best of parade was Soderholm and Company, with a large dog riding in a little electric car and a six-wheeler filled with patriotic teenagers towing a clown on wheels. The cutest kids award went to Ou Est La Queen – Good Harbor Hill Players, including Santina McMillen, who had performed in the Solstice Pageant at North House Folk School in June.
