This is truly a weekend that has something for everyone who is a fan of art.

The 28th Annual Grand Marais Arts Festival will be held July 14-15, and includes 75 artist booths featuring 80 local and outstate artists, hands-on art activities, and a gala fundraiser, An Artful Evening on the Harbor.

The Art Colony hosts the festival to celebrate the vibrant legacy of art on the North Shore of Lake Superior, and provide opportunities to learn more about art through dialogue, demonstrations, and art-making. The festival hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The Arts Festival is a free event held in downtown Grand Marais, featuring photographers, print-makers, fiber artists, potters, jewelers, glass artists, painters, sculptors, and others.

In addition to over 80 artists showcasing their original work, festivalgoers will have an opportunity to engage with a wide variety of hands-on art activities. Create a metal sculpture at the hot metal pour, screen-print a T-shirt, paint on the community mural project, get a portrait drawn, to name just a few.

New this year, the Art Colony will be hosting a fundraiser, An Artful Evening on the Harbor from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday and will feature a Taste of Cook County, local wine and craft beer, and music.

The evening will feature a silent auction and include a special live auction of a large format Hazel Belvo painting. Tickets for the gala are available in advance from the Art Colony for $75 per person and $80 at the door.
