The Minnesota State Arts Board has announced the recipients of 88 grants to Minnesota artists, organizations, and arts presenters through the Arts Learning, Folk and Traditional Arts, and Minnesota Festival Support grant programs. Among the grantees is the Grand Marais Art Colony in support of the Grand Marais Arts Festival.
The purpose of Minnesota Festival Support Project grants is to engage Minnesotans in festivals that celebrate the arts, build community, and expose communities to diverse art forms including folk and traditional arts. For 23 years, the Arts Festival has done just that.
Seventeen festival grants were awarded in September 2013 for a total of $474,492. These grants support lifelong learning in the arts, the preservation and presentation of Minnesota’s folk arts and traditions, and festivals that celebrate the arts. The grants are estimated to serve 341,589 community members.
The Grand Marais Arts Festival will receive $42,148. As it has in the past, the Grand Marais Arts Festival will showcase the work of more than 80 established and emerging Minnesota visual artists. It will present live music, art demonstrations, and on-site classes in downtown Grand Marais July 12-13, 2014.
Arts Learning, Folk and Traditional Arts, and Minnesota Festival Support grant programs are funded by an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature to the Minnesota State Arts Board from the state’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
