Housing, or especially affordable housing for seniors, is always a concern and hot topic for discussion in Cook County.
One of the ways that pressing need is currently being addressed is by Grand Marais Apartments, Inc., (GMAI) which is now looking for additional Advisory Board members.
“Right now we direct a nonprofit 16-unit building for seniors,” said GMAI Secretary Mary Petz, adding that her organization had recently contracted with the Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency (AEOA).
Petz said, “We are successful recipients of three grants to begin and complete Phase 1, and begin Phase 2 of a three-phase renovation for the apartments.
“This is an exciting time for us, and with county and city support as well as that of the Economic Development Authority (EDA), we are moving towards making this 1974-era building something even more special!”
Petz said that all one- and two-bedroom units are full and there is a waiting list for tenants. She said 13 of those units will be low income eligible.
The renovation, said Petz, “will be green, clean and local, but we need your help.”
