Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan paid a visit to the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa on Monday, September 26, as part of his administrations promise to be publicly engaged with communities throughout the state.
Governor Waltz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan met with the Grand Portage Reservation Tribal Council, visited the Grand Portage National Monument and spent time with children from the Oshki Ogimaag elementary school.
When he was elected Waltz promised to visit communities throughout the state as part of the governor’s public engagement office.
The Public Engagement Office is comprised of three functions: Tribal State Relations, Public Engagement, and Constituent Services. A major focus of our work is to connect the people who are affected by decisions made by their government with opportunities to provide advice, feedback, and guidance before those decisions are made.
The Office of Public Engagement is dedicated to enhancing opportunities for community participation in decision making and seeks to include communities most impacted by the decisions made in the Administration in co-creating policies and procedures.
On his Facebook page Governor Waltz said, “It was an honor to meet with Chairman Deschampe and the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa today. These government-to-government meetings are key to growing our partnerships as we continue weaving tribal state relations into the fabric of state government.”
