Got deer? Want trees?

Get fence from Forest Collaborative

This spring, the North Shore Forest Collaborative (NSFC) in cooperation with Sugarloaf Cove, is beginning a program to provide low-cost fencing materials for deer exclosures to private landowners who plant conifer seedlings on their lands along the North Shore of Lake Superior.

Private landowners wanting to plant trees on their land within the NSFC area may apply to receive reduced-cost materials for deer exclosures. Fifty-foot rolls of six-foot-high fencing and rods to anchor the fencing will be made available to qualified landowners who may purchase materials at one-third normal retail cost ($20 per roll versus the retail $60-plus per roll).

Priority will be given to landowners with an approved forest plan for their lands, or who have participated in the Lost Forest training. A limited amount of funding is also available to assist landowners who are physically unable to plant trees and erect exclosures on their property.

These programs are being funded by grants from the Weekes Family Foundation and Minnesota Power Foundation and with the cooperation of Isak Hansen Hardware of Lutsen. An application form is available at the NSFC website, or call Sugarloaf Cove at (218) 525-0001 for more information.
