Over Labor Day weekend, while vacationing in the Grand Marais area, we developed problems with our vehicle. On Friday, August 31 our vehicle would not start. We were given “a jump” by a Good Samaritan and directed to Tire & Auto Lodge, Highway 61, in Grand Marais where a new battery was installed after a very short wait. They were very busy that day but made time for us.
The following day (keep in mind this is the Saturday of Labor Day weekend) we developed trouble again and were directed to Steve’s Sports, Highway 61 in Grand Marais. A quick evaluation by a busy employee told us we required an alternator. They sold us one and made several phone calls until they found Larry Marxen of Reaper Rod Custom Cycles and Fabrication willing to install the alternator. He was very busy that day, however once he completed his work on a motorcycle, he installed our alternator and our wait was not that long.
We realize we could have been halfway up the Gunflint Trail; we could have been headed for a number of remote places without cell service or the ability to find help.
We love coming to Grand Marais and the above little story is just one of many reasons we feel that way. Those who live in this community truly come together to help out “someone in need.”
We needed help, received it and want to say thank you to these folks.
