At press time on Wednesday, December 29, Grand Marais Recreation Park Manager Dave Tersteeg announced that the Grand Marais Municipal Pool would be re-opening on Monday, January 3, 2011. The building will be open its normal hours, however Tersteeg cautioned that the large swimming pool will be extremely cold. It takes several days for the water to reach comfortable temperatures.
However, the hot tub, sauna, and kiddie pool will be ready for use.
The pool was closed after the October 27, 2010 windstorm that tore shingles and insulation off the roof. Repairs have been made and pool clean up is underway for the January 3 opening.
Tersteeg said a “big splash re-opening party” is tentatively scheduled for January 14.
