Golf league fading away

Many a score and a lot of years ago a group of dedicated golfers brought forth the Gunflint Hills Golf Club to support, play and enjoy Gunflint Hills Golf Course. Along with trying to avoid the tree at No. 3 as the years went by, the club members promoted the development, growth and improvements to the course along with the city of Grand Marais. Today we celebrate and thank all of those who gave so much time and effort to build and maintain what has been a wonderful experience for most of us.

As our drives have lost distance and our handicaps have risen, the active membership of the club has continued to decline to the point we are now at.

The Gunflint Hills Golf Club has had a great run Along the way we have had a lot of fun. During our continuing quest for par Enjoying leagues, pot lucks and tournaments We have made memories we will cherish and carry far.

For years the membership was large and inspired We are now down to a few, aging and tired. We hoped that fresh new members would join and say, “We’ll keep the club viable, active and alive.” That has not happened, so we have decided to fade away.

It’s here if you want your club to join and run Mike will run the leagues and keep the course fit for fun.

Longtime club officer Eleanor Sjoberg notes that the tree on 3 John refers to was taken out a few years back after having its bark, branches and leaves ravaged for years by golf balls. It too, faded away.
