I am very concerned about the EDA’s choice for a manager at Superior National Golf Course. I believe the EDA is not looking at the whole picture.
We have an opportunity to hire a young man who was born and raised in this county and has worked long and hard all his life. Todd Gervais’ passion is golf. He has played since he was a very young boy. Todd went on to school to continue his education in the game of golf. He has a wife and a beautiful little boy. I think Todd and his family are a very important asset to the community and our school as well as Superior National. He came back to Cook County to raise his family here, unlike most of the young people. Todd is here to stay if he can find a way to support his family. We have an opportunity to show our children that we will put our money where our mouth is and offer them jobs when we can!
I understand that the EDA wants to hire a person with prior management skills and [knowledge] someone who can go to government entities in search of new funds, but I believe these skills are resident in both the EDA members and the county commissioners and they can be shared with Todd.
This position is going to take a lot more than just some management skills and knowledge of where to get free money. Golfers want to talk to other golfers. Knowing a golfer’s wants and needs is what will keep this golf course going. Todd has this skill already.
I have nothing against Bob Fenwick, but prove to me that he can outperform Todd on overall knowledge to make a golf course successful. Todd comes with new ideas and a refreshing personality. I feel all the board members should have looked at his resume a little closer before making a decision.
