Following construction of a new ski lift system, Lutsen Mountains is now offering its retired gondola cars for sale. Perhaps this is an opportunity to solve a “long standing” (pun intended) local problem, the lack of public restrooms. The gondolas could be retro-fitted with one-way glazing and used as “four seater” porta-potties to be placed at scenic locations around downtown Grand Marais.
Another possible use, considering recent interest in small houses, might be for the EDA to purchase the gondolas as affordable housing. Secure grant funding for spray foam insulation, a solar panel…and presto…a comfy little home.
Recreation Park Cabanas? Broadband Workstations? Confessionals? At only $1,200 each, an “Economic Opportunity” certainly not to be missed.
