I first met Rainbow many years ago when we both volunteered to help the Superior Hiking Trail build a new bridge across Durfee Creek. For many years after that we teamed together to maintain two sections of the Trail, from Pincushion Overlook to Woods Creek on County 58 and from the East end of the Lakewalk to Judge Magney State Park. We were also “Trail Angels” for Ken Oelkers the Maintenance Supervisor doing special projects for him. When the trail needed lumber to build walkways over wet spots many times the “SHT budget” did not have the money needed so Rainbow would often buy what was needed out of his own pocket.

Rainbow is known more now for his Classic Country Radio shows and as a volunteer at WTIP. Rainbow lives in Meadowlands, about a four-hour drive to Grand Marais and the station. If you want to learn more about Rainbow Trout there is an excellent video program that you can watch on WDSE’s PBS Passport titled “Who is Rainbow Trout”, go to www.wdse.org , and Search: Rainbow Trout.

In February Rainbow was driving back to Meadowlands after seeing his wife Teresa in the hospital in Duluth. It was dark and he was in an accident on Hwy 53. His car was totaled. Rainbow was hurt pretty bad but is now recovering at home.

Rainbow is “pushing” 90, his life has not been a “bed of roses”, he is one of those guys that when he came along, they “broke the mold” but he still puts his pants on “one leg at a time” like everyone else. If he could help you, he would, so now that he could use some help raising some money to replace his old car, donating to this GoFundMe drive would be a great way to do it.

If you would also like to help, get a car for Rainbow, go to GoFundMe and make a donation. www.gofundme.com/f/rainbowtrout needs-a-car
