God created marriage with a purpose

A triptych of the northern lights hangs in the clinic waiting room. I think a gray wash should be applied over the painting to reflect the colors I have experienced. Should we take a vote on that change? Why not?

First, I am not the creator of the painting. I have no real authority to demand changes.

Second, the artist painted the picture with intent and purpose. I don’t know what intent the creator had in the painting. Could it be their experience with the northern lights is different than mine and they really can be that colorful; that the intent of the painting is to show their beauty in a way that I haven’t seen? The artist/creator knows the purpose and intent of their work and is the only one with the right to make changes.

Why then would any of us feel that we have the right, by voting, to change what the Creator of marriage intends? We did not create marriage, God did.

What is God’s purpose for marriage? Read Genesis 1:26-28 where God intentionally created male and female and joined them together as husband and wife to fulfill His purposes, not theirs. He told them to multiply and fill the earth. Why?

Read Malachi 2:15. God seeks godly offspring who, bearing the moral image of God, spread the knowledge of the glory of God all over the world (Habakkuk 2:14).

Marriage belongs to its Creator and to His purposes. Therefore, only husbands and wives, one male and one female, joined by God in marriage, have the rights that come with marriage. Those who choose to operate outside of God’s clearly defined definition of marriage can have their partnerships, but should not assume they can rewrite the definition of marriage, so as to partake of the rights that God-ordained marriage provides.

So, I will vote “Yes” to preserve marriage as one man and one woman, not because I don’t like homosexuals, or don’t understand the need for love, acceptance or companionship, or think homosexual behavior is a greater sin than any other, but because the loving Creator God does have a purpose for marriage, which homosexual relationships can not fulfill and He has not changed His revealed and eternal purpose.
