God continues to guide

Geri, your letter of August 1 was well written unlike the bitter one before. I’ll try to do the same. I answer your letters to let others have two sides on these issues. 1. That the United States was based on Christian principles by people who came to this country to gain religious freedom not freedom from religion. 2. That many religions do have the same beliefs about how to treat others. 3. That many religions have had and now have periods of trying to force their beliefs on others.

Now, a very simplified reason why I am a Christian: Because I know that on my own I can’t always behave as I would like. I need someone to hold me accountable. This can’t be another person just as fallible as I am.

I firmly believe that there is God, the Creator, who has continued to guide His creation. Rather than waiting for me to fail so he can punish, as you think, He is always there to remind me of what is right. Sometimes, like a parent with a child, the reminder might hurt. He even cared enough to send his son to give his life on the cross so because I believe and try to follow his leading I will eventually be with him in heaven.

You disagree, fine, I ask only that you accept my right to do the same for your beliefs. I am holding you in my prayers.
