When it comes to filling out the 2020 census, Minnesota ranks first out of all 50 states with 69 percent of its residents filling out and turning in their census form.
That’s quite an achievement!
However, out of Minnesota’s 87 counties, Cook County remains dead last with only 19 percent of its residents completing the form.
Part of the problem may be because census workers are not out in the field yet delivering the forms to mailboxes. Until the governor rolls back more restrictions on who can work and when they can work, the census workers will remain at home. At least for now.
However, if you have access to a computer you can fill out the form online at my2020census.gov or by phone 844-330-2020.
Filling out the census form is painless and doesn’t take long.
“The good news is you don’t need a form or a 12 digit number to respond. You can bypass the 12-digit number and just answer the questions. It literally takes 5 minutes,” said Interim County Administrator Rena Rogers.
Everyone, from kids to grandparents, living in a home or an apartment needs to be counted in the census. If you rent, please fill out the census form. All homeowners, please fill out the census form. Anyone living in Cook County, including visa holders, please fill out the census form.
Every ten years since 1790, the United States has undertaken the massive job of counting its population.
How important is getting an accurate count? According to the census bureau, census results are used to determine your representation in Congress, and they help determine how $675 billion are distributed annually for hospitals, schools, roads, and more.
For Cook County to get its share of the $675 billion, everyone needs to fill out their census form.
