Glen “Bobby” Leonard,

82, died Thursday, February 2 , 2012 of complications of Alzheimer’s disease in the Veteran’s Home in Silver Bay.

“Bobby” was born August 29, 1929 and grew up in Lutsen. He was married to Marlene Boostrom for 60 years and they made their home in Grand Marais.

Bobby drove truck, starting with delivering fish along the

North Shore as a teen and ending peddling freight up and down the Gunflint Trail and North Shore. After over 40 years, he retired in 1986. He received recognition for a million miles behind the wheel of a Mack truck.

Bobby served our country in the Korean War and was a proud veteran. He was a member of the American Legion Post 413 and VFW.

Bobby is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Marian Leonard, and brother Teddy.

He is survived by his wife Marlene, sister Janie (Charlie) Humphrey of Brownsville, TX, children Steve (Magda) of Chicago, Bruce (Nancy) of Grand Marais and Marianne (Kenny) Kauma of Duluth, five grandchildren Lindsay (Matt) Townsend, April (Ben) Peterson, Lea Leonard, Linnea Leonard and Casimir Leonard and four great-grandchildren and many other friends and family.

Bobby’s family would like to express their sincere appreciate for the extraordinary care given at the VA home in Silver Bay.

Honoring Bobby’s request, there will not be a memorial service.
