Gladys Augusta Rindahl,
86, passed away peacefully March 23, 2011 in the North Shore Care Center in Grand Marais.
Gladys was born in Milbank, S.D. to Victor and Hilda Anderson on Sept. 27, 1924. She shared the same birthday with her mother, Hilda, and daughter Deb Berry. The Anderson family moved to their farm in Maple Hill Township, which also served as a boarding home to students from the Gunflint Trail.
She married Alfred Rindahl in Two Harbors on July 13, 1941. Gladys was a stay-at-home mother for their five children. After the nest emptied she worked at cleaning jobs and caretaking at Tomteboda and Shoreline Hotel. Gladys enjoyed knitting, reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, Skip-Bo, music and Bible studies. Her affable personality and loving encouragement will be missed.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband Alfred; infant daughter Beverly; two sons, Ronny and Gary; and grandson Joshua Berry.
She is survived by a brother, Harvey Anderson; daughters Deb Berry, Gail Rindahl and Sandy (Terry) Anderson; grandchildren Lynette Rindahl, Rhonda Derhammer, Mathew Rindahl, Douglas Rindahl, Jason Rindahl, Kristen (Bruce) Butler, Lance (Amanda) Anderson, Erik (Stephanie) Anderson and Dylan Anderson; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Many thanks to the Care Center staff for their excellent care, and Gladys’s good friends Eleanor Waha and Al Fuller, who helped make her stay enjoyable.
Services were held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on March 28. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in the spring.
