With the seasons changing, it gives me the opportunity to slow down a bit and reflect.
There are so many things to give thanks for in life. I am thankful for my dear family. Although, I still miss my mother each and every day. She has now been gone five years this month.
I am very thankful for all of my friends here at the Senior Center. We are very blessed to have so many wonderful people attending and participating here at the Senior Center.
The Senior Center has been very fortunate to enjoy a number of “Treat Feast” meals for lunch. A “Treat Feast” is when someone graciously donates money, as little as $50 to sponsor the meat of their choice for our congregate dining and Meals on Wheels programs. This really helps financially to make ends meet for our food program. We have also received some additional cash donations towards our food program and donations of produce and other foods. We are very thankful for these generosities from many individuals and businesses.
On a lighter note…I am thankful that our little town of Grand Marais has quieted down. We enjoyed many new faces here at the Senior Center throughout these past peak months. It has been a very busy and successful season. I realize that our community’s economic security is based significantly on tourism, but it sure is nice to once again be able to cross the street with just a glance. Also while driving, to be able to make a turn at an intersection without having to wait forever. To go into a restaurant or store and not have to wait in line. Walking the sidewalks is a pleasure in these quiet months even if it is cold. You can walk or stroll with the ease of not having to dodge people walking three to four abreast.
Library presentation November 12
There is still plenty to keep us all busy though. On Wednesday, November 12, right after our roast beef “Treat Feast” meal, two folks from the Grand Marais Public Library will be here to explain what is new and happening at the library.
