“Give to the Max” raises $14 million for nonprofits

In just one day, more than $14 million was raised for 3,434 Minnesota nonprofits—many in Cook County—during the first Give to the Max Day on Nov. 17. More than 38,000 donors participated in the day of giving. Every donation made through GiveMN.org—will receive a portion of a $500,000 match. “We are so thankful for the thousands of donors who helped support our nonprofit community on Give to the Max Day, which was truly an unprecedented day of giving in Minnesota,” said Dana Nelson, executive director of GiveMN.

Give to the Max Day was created to increase giving to nonprofits across the state by raising as much money as possible for nonprofits in one day. All donations on Give to the Max Day were made through GiveMN.org, a first-of-itskind giving Web site that helps Minnesotans discover, support and engage with nonprofits. “We are absolutely thrilled with the tremendous response Give to the Max Day received. We raised more than three times as much money for Minnesota nonprofits than any other previous online community fundraising event in the United States,” said Carleen Rhodes president and CEO of The Minnesota Community Foundation and The Saint Paul Foundation, and a sponsor of Give to the Max Day. The Bush Foundation, The Minneapolis Foundation and The Saint Paul Foundation sponsored Give to the Max Day and offered multiple incentives for donors to participate, including a $500,000 match and grants for the three nonprofits that had the largest number of individuals who made donations. There was a close race for the highest number of donors, resulting in four nonprofits receiving grants, with Second Harvest Heartland coming in first place; College of Saint Benedict in second place; and Twin Cities Public Television and Animal Humane Society sharing third place.
