One pint of blood can save up to three lives, so giving blood truly is a life-saving act. To make it easier for Northlanders to donate blood, the Memorial Blood Center will be visiting Cook County at the beginning of March, conducting blood drives in Tofte and Grand Marais.
Polly Erickson is the organizer of the blood drive to be held on Tuesday, March 2 at Zoar Lutheran Church. Anyone who would like to donate is encouraged to call Erickson to schedule an appointment at (218) 663- 7398.
Another blood drive, sponsored by St. John’s Catholic Church, will be held at the Grand Marais Senior Center the next day, Wednesday, March 3. To schedule an appointment to donate blood on that date, contact Kay Sivets at (218) 387-2262.
Another blood drive will be taking place at Cook County High School on March 4. To schedule an appointment to give blood at the school, contact Pam Taylor at (218) 387-2273.
About one in seven people entering a hospital will need blood and more than 4.5 million people need blood transfusions each year throughout the U.S. and Canada, so the need is always great. Consider calling one of the volunteers listed above and do your part today.
