The Cook County High School girls’ basketball team played Carlton on Friday, January 14 at Carlton. Led by defense and a balanced offense, the Vikings took an easy win, 47-24 over their rival and conference opponent, the Carlton Bulldogs.

With the win the Viking’s record is now 2-5.

Three Vikings scored in double figures. Rhonnie Poyirier led the team with 23 points. Makenzie Fairbanks and Kamryn Johnson each scored ten points and Mataya Fairbanks and Amery Oberg both had two points in the game.

The Vikings next four games are on the road. On January 20 they are scheduled to play Silver Bay. The next day they travel to South Ridge and on January 25 they go to Mesabi East. The Vikings finish their road trips on January 28 by bussing down the shore to play the Two Harbors Agates. Because of the recent outbreak of COVID, however, some of these games may have to be rescheduled. The boy’s game against Carlton was cancelled because of COVID.

The girls play at home on February 1 at 4:45 p.m. when they match-up against the Floodwood Polar Bears. Go Vikings!
