Girls lose to Cherry

A quick start for the Cherry Tigers put the Cook County High School girls’ basketball team on its heels as the Tigers got off to an 18-3 start. The game was played last Friday night at home with the Vikings falling 51 to 29.

Cherry used a three-quarter press at times to slow the Vikings down. And, while the Vikings had a lot of good looks, it was tough sledding putting the ball through the hoop. Meanwhile Cherry, who wasn’t shooting all that well, scored on second and third shots.

Once again Katie Peck led the Vikings in scoring. Katie finished her night with 15 points, six points coming off of three-point shots. Katie was also 3-4 from the free throw line.

Makenzie Fairbanks scored 11 points. Makenzie was 4 of 8 shooting and had one three point basket. Amery Oberg had two points and Wei-Lani Likiaksa, had one point.

Cherry’s leading scorer was Jillian Sajdak. Jillian finished with 17 points, going 3-4 from the free throw line. If the last name sounds familiar it should. Jillian’s father is former CCHS great Jeff Sajdak, who went on to co-captain the UMD football team.

Other girls to score for Cherry included Faith Zganjar, who had 15, and Mackenna Ridge, who fished with eight points for the Tigers.
