The North Shore Storm cross country teams had another great week of racing.
The varsity girls placed second at the Swain cross country meet that was held at Enger Park golf course in Duluth on Saturday, Oct. 6.
Autumn Smith finished 11th in 20:51.6. Cedar Gordon was 23rd in 21:21; Lamar Gordon placed 26th in 21:36.6; Claire LaVigne took 40th in 21:58.2; Kate Walsberg finished 66th in 22:42.4; Louise Ramberg placed 67th in 22:48.8; Abbie Crawford finished 106th in 24:00.
The North Shore Storm’s top five girls’ places added up to 166 points, only three points behind the winning score of Lake City.
Single-A girls’ winner was Katherine Geist of Crookston in 19:09.
Boys’ Varsity
The boys’ varsity team placed fourth in class A out of 32 teams with the team’s top five runners’ places adding up to 168. Minnehaha Academy won with 122 points.
Coming in first place out of a field of 225 Class A runners was Cooper Lennox of Mora with a time of 16:27.7 for the 5k (3.1 mile) distance.
Isaac Swanson, a sophomore, led the North Shore Storm with a tenth place finish in 17:16.9. Will Surbaugh and Noah Smith placed 17th and 18th in 17:31.1 and 17:32.3. Brenden Seipke placed 22nd with a time of 17:43.9. JC Holman was the team’s fifth runner. JC placed 106th in 19:31.
Kevin Viren placed 140th in 20:10; Henry DeArruda-Weaver placed 158th in 20:43.5.
Girls’ junior varsity places 4th
Laura Erickson led the North Shore Storm JV girls with a 12th place in 24:38. Isabel Schottenbaur placed 16th in 24:54.3; Brooklyn Smith placed 18th in 25:03.4; Anna Hay placed 24th in 25:47.6; Robin Henrikson placed 29th in 26:23.1; Sidni Hendren placed 37th in 27:12.1; Aurora Schelmeske finished 41st 27:49; Cecelia Chmelik finished 66th in 27:56.9; Saira Smith placed 74th in 28:22.7; Elsa Garry was 82nd place in 28:42.8; Greta Roth finished 88th in 29:21.7; Ellen Callender placed 96th in 30:36; Abbey Stoddard was 106th in 33:57.4
Boys’ junior varsity takes 5th
The boys’ junior varsity finished in fifth place out of 17 schools.
Tate Crawford finished in 17th place with a time of 20:14.7. Tanner DeBoer placed 18th in 20:19.3; Chance Hanel finished 30th in 20:59.5; Leif Anderson placed 35th in 21:20.4; Keegan Morrison placed 38th in 21:31.7; Jonah Schmidt placed 53rd in 22:06.9; Trent Spry placed 80th in 23:37.9; Haydon John was 144th with a time of 25:45.8; Riley Tarver placed 161st in 30:08.7.
Boys’ junior high 3,200 meters (2 mile)
The North Shore boys’ junior high team placed 17th out of 22 schools.
Brayden Schmidt placed 39th in 12:16.2; Ian Thorpe placed 55th in 12:39.8; Gus Hahn placed 86th in 13:25.1; Silas Brandt placed 110th in 14:32.7; Haydon Taylor placed 129th in 15:17.7; and Reed Cruikshank placed 139th in 22:22.3.
Girls’ junior high 3,200 meters
Jocelyn Carr placed 36th in 13:42; Lizzy Dover finished 110th in 15:30; Kylie Viren placed 119th in 15:49; Shawanda Everson finished 139th in 16:52.
