With a little over four minutes left in the game the Vikings were down 12 points but looked to be on a comeback. Back-to-back baskets by MaKenzie Fairbanks and Rhonnie Poyirier and a nice defensive play by Anna Hay to prevent an Agate lay-up gave the Vikings the ball and Viking’s fans had hope.
Unfortunately, the Vikings failed to score on the next play and the Agates soon pushed the lead to 20, taking the hard-fought contest 56-36.
Still, the Vikings had their chances if they could have made a few three-point shots. Sadly, none fell, and the Agates packed the middle, making it especially hard to score points in close to the hoop. Still, Rhonnie Poyirier fought through double teams all night long to score 18 points, going six of ten from the free throw line. MaKenzie Fairbanks put up nine points, making three of five free throws. Amery Oberg had one point, Katie Peck ended with four, and Kamryn Johnson sank four of six free throws to end with four points for the game.
Two Harbors was led by Karly Holm. The junior scored 23 points to lead all players.
With the loss the Vikings are 0-4 on the year. Two Harbors record went to 5-3 with the win.
The Vikings will travel to play their next six games. They play at home on February 1 against Floodwood. The game starts at 4:45 p.m. Come out and cheer for your Vikings!
