Girls fall to Cherry

The Cook County High School girls’ basketball team traveled to Cherry Minnesota on December 10 to face the always tough Cherry Tigers and the results weren’t pretty. Behind a withering defense, Cherry took the contest 67-17.

Rhonnie Poyirier led Viking scorers with seven points. Kamryn Johnson had three, Makenzie Fairbanks had three, Anelicia Poyirier two and Katie Peck two.

Viking Head Coach Kelly Hawsen said the game was tough, but the kids played hard throughout.

“Cherry pressed until the last 12 minutes of the second half. We struggled with keeping the ball and shooting percentage,” Hawsen said.

“We have a very young team and often have at least one to three freshman or sophomores on the court at a time.

We are focused on building up our fundamentals and consistently getting better each practice and each game. This team has a lot of potential and they have a great team dynamic. I look forward to what they can accomplish as the season progresses.”
