Vikings fall to Esko
Brrr!!!
A cold wind came off the lake as the Vikings hosted the Esko Eskimos at the Rec Park softball field on Monday, May 8.
Cold weather didn’t seem to hurt the appropriately named Eskimos, who scored 13 runs in the first four innings. Meanwhile, the Vikings didn’t put anyone on first base over that time. Then, just when it looked like the Vikings would fall to the ten-run rule, the team started hitting and stealing bases. In the fifth, the Vikings put the Esko runners down one, two, or three on-ground balls to the infield that were caught and relayed to first base for outs. Next, the Vikings erupted for six runs. Esko would rally for six more runs to put the game away, but the Vikings were game throughout.
Kallie Anderson, just a freshman, was a trooper on the mound. Esko had a typical team of big, strong athletic girls who could hit hard, run fast, and play ball.
The Vikings have a slew of games coming up, including several makeup games canceled due to inclement weather. For the latest updated schedule, please go to the I.S.D. 166 website.
