Playing Barnum at Barnum proved to be a tall order for the Cook County High School girls’ basketball team. Still, the Vikings’ team kept the score close through the first half before the Bomber’s tall post players wore them down.
At halftime, the score was 36-27, but Barnum held the Vikings to 17 second-half points while adding 41 points to their halftime total.
The game was held Thursday, February 4, with the Barnum Bombers winning 77-44.
Junior Guard MaKenzie Fairbanks had a great night shooting, netting four threes. Makenzie led the team in scoring with 18 points.
Sophomore forward Kamryn Johnson made 13 points, junior forward Katie Peck scored two threes and eleven points. Sophomore guard Amery Oberg had two points, and freshman guard MaTaya Fairbanks one point.
Barnum’s record is now 6-10, while the Vikings’ record fell to 1-9.
After the game, Head Coach Kelly Hawsen said she was “Very proud of the girls tonight. They played tough and never quit. The score doesn’t always show how hard they worked. Barnum had a couple of very tall posts that were hard to stop. But we were only down by nine at the half and rallied as best we could.”
“We are still down some girls and are hopeful to be full strength soon.”
