Since 2005 local Girl Scouts have sponsored Santa’s Workshop on the first Saturday in December. Last year they took a break and decided they really would try hard to make that the only interruption in this tradition. So this year, Troop #412, with the help of Lifetime Members, is sponsoring the event. This is a shopping spree for kids, safe for the littlest ones, and gratifying for all.

This year we will begin at 9 a.m. and go until 12 noon at the Colvill Town Hall. Adults are asked to prepare a list of names for whom to shop. Part of the registration will be handled outside, and then an “elf ” will accompany the kids to the shopping area where they can pick out presents for loved ones. The elf will walk kids through the process, get them wrapped and bagged and ready to put under the tree. At checkout, the treasures are ready to go, and parents pay for the mystery gift.

The joy for volunteers and elves comes when watching a four-year-old find just the right gift for dad, unwrapping it and the huge smile as they walk away with a surprise treasure.

This is an affordable and fun opportunity. Items range from twenty-five cents to two dollars, and there is a small adult shopping area with higher value, bigger signed items.

There is also a new photo opportunity so please bring your camera. A campfire event is also planned for anyone who is waiting to get in. This is more fun than sitting in the car! We are a rain or shine event. Girl Scouts collect items throughout the year and always welcome community support. If you would like to donate a gift, please get in touch with Arvis Thompson, 218-387-2487, and leave a message.

Due to space limitations, no food will be served; sorry, no pancakes this year!

This event is a service project helping girls learn customer service, patience and organizational skills. Any proceeds are used to support local girl scout activities.
