Girl Scout Investiture and Rededication





MaeAnna LaFavor received her Girl Scout Silver award at the Girl Scout Investiture on Thursday, October 27. MaeAnna earned the award in part, for her efforts to bring a special reading system to Cook County Schools for dyslexic students. Her mother, Scout Leader Laura LaFavor, had the privilege of presenting the Silver award to MaeAnna.

The basement of St. John’s Catholic Church in Grand Marais was a hive of activity on Thursday, October 27 as Girl Scouts young and old took part in an Investiture and Rededication ceremony in front of parents, siblings, friends and relatives. The ceremony followed supper and clean up hosted by the scouts and several parents.

Third grade Troop 4077 started the evening off with the Girl Scout/ U.S. Flag ceremony. Led by Christine Kunze and Fawn Smith, the troop includes the following girls: Malin Anderson, Sylvia Berka, Ellie Block, Jorden Hurrley, Hatti Kunze, Ashleigh Precord, Shelby Sjogren, Hailey Smith, Isabella Sparks, Abbey Stoddard, and Jaycee Wilson.

Vicki Shaw and Jody Helmerson lead kindergarten/first grade Daisy troop 4109. The troop will soon be saying goodbye to Shaw because in less than one month she and her family are moving to Texas for her husband’s job. Besides her work with the Girl Scouts Vicki has been a leader with the North Shore Rollers logrolling team. Troop members include: Anna Ahonen, Bridget Cooley, Allessandra Duclos, Mackenzie Fairbanks, Danielle Precord, Lola Shaw, Savanna Shepard, Genevieve Silence, Kylie Viren, Fiona Walton, and Madeline Ziller.

Michele Silence and Rhonda Silence led second grade Brownie troop 4070 as they transitioned to Brownie Scouts. The new Brownies include Bryn Allen, Sienna Denewith, Riley Goettl, Elsa Garry, Ella Hedstrom, Shaelyn Hingos, Christiana Mendivil, Liv Nesgoda- Works, RaeAnne Silence, Sadie Wilson, and Charlet Waver.

Fourth grade Troop 4141 leaders are Malin Aseby-Gesch and Arvis Thompson. Troop members are Cloe Blackburn, Madison Foster, Emma Gesch, Jaymie Kirk, Shaelyn Novitsky, Auroa Schelmeske and Haley Wahlberg.

Deb Smith and Sandy Bockovich led 5th grade Troop 4135. Members include Halle Bockovich, Jaymee Dossey, Sophie Eliasen, Andrea Larsen, Elsa Lunde, and Jessica MacCudden.

Jinsey Smith and Heidi Doo Kirk led sixth grade Troop 4117. This year the following girls will “bridge over” and become Girl Scouts: Kya Ashford- Brazell, Linnea Gesch, Wellesley Howard-Larsen and Daphne Lacina.

Sandy Stover and Helen Carter led seventh grade Troop 4113. Members include Emily Jacobsen, Julia Larsen, Brooke Sherer, Alicia Smith, Bailey Cox, Hannah Toftey and Sarah Toftey.

Laura LaFavor is the leader of Troop 4110. These eighth grade girls are busy raising money so that they can attend the 100-year celebration of Girl Scouts that will be held this spring in Georgia. Working hard to make that happen are Haylie Anderson, Kimberley Dossey, MaeAnnna LaFavor, Shae Morawitz, Natassja Sheils, Isabel Wahlers.

Five girls are trying to complete their “Gold” projects. This is comparable to a Boy Scout earning Eagle Scout honors. These juniors and seniors are Michaela Buchheit, Sarah Larsen, Kara Pearson, Michaela Peterson and Ashley Ross. Kari Peterson, who commended the girls on their efforts, leads them. They, too, are attempting to raise money so they can go to Savannah, Georgia for the 100-year celebration of Girl Scouts.
