Ghoulish fun at the Playhouse

Ghosts, goblins, witches… haunted houses! Yikes, what have we gotten into now? Grand Marais Playhouse is sponsoring—along with additional help from KIDS Plus, Community Education, Cook County Extension, and ISD #166 Middle School Student Council— a haunted house for some Halloween/ fall fun this month.

The Playhouse is donating use of equipment, lighting and sound, as well as a few costumes to help make this year’s haunted house a good time for all. The effects should be “startling but not too gory!” according to Playhouse Director Sue Hennessy.

The haunted house, to be located in the Search and Rescue building by the Cook County Community Center, will be open to the public on October 29, 30 and 31 from 6 – 8 p.m. with a $1 per person entrance fee or a cost of $3 per family.

The Best Christmas
Pageant Ever
returns to the ACA stage in December. This play was the most requested show we have had per our survey results so we anticipate (and hope for) great attendance.

Thisplay centers around a holiday pageant that is to be held at school with the “worst kids in the history of the world” turning out to audition when they find out that kids in the pageant get candy at rehearsals. It is a hilarious and touching play that is the perfect holiday story.

Auditions will be held on October 18 at 3:30 p.m. at the ACA. First graders through adults are urged to try out as there are many fabulous parts in this play. No one will be turned away as we can have a part for everyone! How’s that for community theater?

Thisyear’s production will be different than the other productions you may have seen with us as we plan to add some different twists to the play. We are considering having a student band as well as some different music. Of course, the actors themselves make each production a different. Rehearsals will be held after school from 3:30 – 5 p.m. and will begin after MEA weekend. So, come one, come all! Let’s see your artistic side.

Auditions are easy and being a part of a play like this is something you will never forget!

Finally, we are planning a fundraiser that will be held on November 13, 2010. Theme? We need to raise money to pay the rent. Yes, it is true—we pay rent. Like many theaters around the state, our attendance has been down, which results in less money. The fundraiser is going to consist of one big jam session. We are inviting singers and musicians to come play for our audience. What better way to spend a November evening than listening to some of the awesome talent we have in Cook County while helping out the Playhouse at the same time? We also plan to have a small silent auction with some fabulous items available.

Calendars ready? Haunted house in October, fundraiser in November, and The Best
Christmas Pageant Ever
in December!
