G&G Septic purchases Cedar Grove Business Park lot

In a public hearing lasting no more than 10 minutes, the Cook County- Grand Marais Economic Development Authority (EDA) agreed to sell Cedar Grove Business Park lot 3, block 7, to Pete Gresczyk of G&G Septic.

No citizens, not even Gresczyk, were on hand at the Tuesday, March 9, 2010 public hearing held before the EDA’s regular meeting. EDA Director Matt Geretschlaeger, working only 2 ½ days per week due to EDA budget cuts, said no one has come into the EDA office or called. “No one has said anything, pro or con,” he said.

Geretschlaeger said Gresczyk had met with the EDA design review committee. His proposal is to build a white, gray, and light green 42’ x 64’ uni-frame building similar to the one across the road housing Nordic Electric. The design was approved by the EDA design review committee. Gresczyk has also submitted a stormwater plan approved by a civil engineer, as required by the EDA.

Geretschlaeger said the sale price of the lot is $65,000. Gresczyk is to pay $45,000 immediately and the $20,000 balance to the city of Grand Marais at closing. The$20,000 is to cover the assessment for water and sewer to the lot.

EDA Board Member Hal Greenwood, acting as chair pro tem in the absence of Chair Mike Littfin (out for medical reasons) and vice-chair Jan Sivertson, asked if there was a motion to approve the sale. EDA Board Member Don Davison made the motion, Board Member Jim Hall seconded, and the motion carried.

The building will be used by G&G Septic as a temporary holding area, allowing G&G to discharge septic waste into tanks and dose it into the Grand Marais Municipal Waste Treatment Plant in an appropriate manner. All of the operations would be conducted inside of the building.

“We’ve been following this for six or eight months, so there is no surprise here,” said Don Davison.
