Like the other schools in the county, Great Expectations School (GES) is busily preparing for the new school year. Director Peter James paused for a phone conversation this week, to talk about the coming year, which will have a different calendar.
The schedule will be the same as School District 166, which provides bus service for Great Expectations.
“Great Expectations is following the calendar of the ‘resident district,’” said James. “The schedule was sent out in parent mailings this week.”
James said the school is working to schedule “in-take conferences”—time for teachers to sit down and talk. “When students are entering a new classroom, with a new teacher, we want to sit down with parents and get to know the child from the parents’ point-of-view. We want to learn about the parents’ hopes and dreams for their child,” said James.
There are few staff changes at GES in the coming year. There is one new teacher, Anne Mundell and a new math and science teacher for 5th – 8th grades, Erik Hahn. There are several new paraprofessionals: AnDrea DeBoer, Karen Gale, Emily Dennison, and Rachel Liechty. Melissa Oberg will be working at GES as a half-time special education teacher. And Clara Weitz is the new office assistant.
