Getting cozy at the Care Center

There will be an abundance of activities at North Shore Care Center in November, because as the days get shorter—our time indoors gets longer. It’s that time of year to get back into crafts, baking, and other indoor projects.

The Men’s Group will prepare their annual hunter’s dinner and the women will begin a Knitter’s Group. On Veteran’s Day residents will attend a special lunch at the Senior Center. Veterans to be honored at the Care Center are Dick Anderson, Gerry Eisler, Marvin Holmen, Howard Joynes, and Byron Whaley.

There are three birthdays to celebrate in November. Dorothe Vaughn, Bertha Toftey, and Pat Howard invite family and friends to attend the monthly birthday party on Wednesday, November 11 at 3:00 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Laura Laky.

Later this month the Grand Marais Lioness women will make delicious pumpkin desserts to serve at their monthly social on November 21. Irene Thompson will perform her old time favorites on the piano at 3:00 p.m.

Other music in November features the jazz sounds of The Sivertones on November 19 at 6:00 p.m. There will be a square dance for residents and families on Thanksgiving weekend. The Arrowtippers will perform Saturday, November 28 at 6:30 p.m. Get ready to do the Virginia Reel!

Thanksgiving Day welcomes many guests for our traditional turkey dinner, as well as Turkey Bingo, and football on our big screen TV. A special thank you to Kathy and Tom Bernier for the large Mitsubishi TV they donated to the residents last month.

Many thanks to all of our volunteers during this busy season. We wish you good health and a safe holiday. For information about volunteer opportunities at the Care Center, please contact the Activity Dept. at (218) 387-3518 or go to the new website: www.nshorehospital.com volunteer link.
