Talk about the Cat’s Pajamas, Historic Cook County is hosting a fund raiser for the organization on August 23 at the former Harbor Light Supper Club.
The event will start at 6 p.m.
The swinging evening will feature the bee’s knees of 1920s music, and there will be dancing, games, food, drink, and a great talk from local Historian Dan Helmerson.
The brochure advertising the event says, “Dust off those flapper dresses and brush up on your Charleston!”
For ladies, “The It Girl” Clara Bow achieved worldwide fame during the Roaring Twenties by wearing short, bobbed hair, bright colored sweaters and scarves that were typical of clothes worn by flappers of the day. Maybe that will be you!
For men, there was no special clothing needed to dance the Charleston, although some fashioned Dinner Suits for the dance.
Visit the Historic Cook County website to purchase tickets and don’t be late. Drinks and appetizers start at 6 p.m. with the program starts at 7 p.m. During that time, you should be able to stretch and get nimble for the rousing hep dance to follows Dan’s talk.
