Unplugged is North House Folk School’s signature fall fundraiser and an annual celebration of community, craft, storytelling, and music on the North Shore of Lake Superior. This year’s event will be Friday, Sept. 14 to Sunday, Sept. 16 and will feature courses, lectures, a Folk Artisan Marketplace, the Birch Bark Bash fundraising gala, the Points North Auction—an online auction, and a special musical performance on Saturday evening.
Friday night features the Birch Bark Bash, a time for supporters to come together to support the mission of North House. Scott Graden of the New Scenic Café will prepare a multi-course dinner, and will be joined by Fulton Beer, North Shore Winery, and Voyageur Brewing Company. Plus Ted Talks presenter and YouTube sensation Jögge Sundqvist will present an exciting demonstration. A live auction will be held to benefit North House.
On Saturday evening, international playwright and storyteller Kevin Kling will be joined by musical legends Dan Chouinard, Prudence Johnson, Simone Perrin, Claudia Schmidt, Bradley Greenwald, and Dane Stauffer.
Throughout the weekend, visitors can appreciate and purchase handmade craft during the Folk Artisan Marketplace. And from Sept. 12-16, Swedish historian Daniel Serra will offer three one-day courses on Viking cooking. He’s spent over 20 years studying Viking Age cuisine. He’s the author of An Early Meal—a Viking Age Cookbook & Culinary Odyssey.
Those who can’t enjoy Unplugged in person can support the NHFS mission by participating in the Points North online auction by bidding on iconic North Shore experiences, lodging packages, handmade traditional craft, and more. Sneak peek starts on Sept. 1, and bidding is from Sept. 7 – 16. Check out www.biddingforgood.com/northhouse
