Gertrude Marie Peters,
86, Grand Marais, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, December 25, 2009, at her home.
She was born on November 12, 1923, in Ames Iowa. She married Roy E. Peter ‘Pete’ in 1941, and they raised two sons in Ames. She worked as an airbrusher at Collegian Manufacturing for 22 years.
When Gert moved to the “Northwoods” in 1996, she brought her Iowa green thumb with her, and she never gave up her efforts to grow “real” tomatoes. She found many friends here through her interest in quilting and other fiber arts. Gert was especially known for keeping her friends well supplied with caramels and toffee.
She loved living in the woods and collecting its bounty. The birds and chipmunks she befriended will miss her generous spirit, as will the rest of us who share memories of Gert.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, her husband Pete, and son Jerry.
She is survived by her son Ron (Grand Marais), and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews in Iowa and Missouri.
