Gerald D. Jacobsen Jerry Jacobsen, 91, died Sunday, May 31st, in the VA related facility in Two Harbors. (Waterview Shores).
Jerry was born May 29, 1929, and grew up in Hovland, Minnesota. He was the youngest of eight siblings.
Jerry made his home and raised his family in Grand Marais, after serving our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran.
Jerry drove truck up and down the Northshore and the Gunflint Trail, delivering freight for 20 years. Then he took an over-the-road route out of Duluth to International Falls for another 20 years. He was a proud teamster and was recognized with a “Million Miles” award and 30 years of safe driving.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Flossie Jacobsen, wife MaryAnn Jacobsen, sisters: Olyve Joynes, Dorothy Tenney, Lois McLellan, Shirley Nelson/Haasl, Ruth Pearson/Krause, brother Robert Jacobsen and great granddaughter Carolyne Jensen.
He is survived by his sister Joyce Hagen, ex-wife Beverley Denyes, sons: Keith (Wendy) Jacobsen, Marty Jacobsen, Dean Jacobsen, and John Royer (Jan); eight grandchildren: Melissa Jacobsen (Chris Jensen), Adam Jacobsen, Vanessa Jacobsen, Stein Jacobsen, Allie Jacobsen, Audrey Jacobsen, Nikki Jo Lutz, and Lauren Royer; six great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at Waterview Shores.
A remembrance gathering will be held at the Grand Marais Rec Park Pavilion Sunday, Sept. 20th from noon to 4 p.m. with military honors at 1 p.m. Lunch and beverages will be served.
