Operation Family Christmas applications are in, and the tags (with information about children that need to be adopted) have been placed throughout the county. Tags can be picked up at the Senior Center, North Shore Federal Credit Union (Grand Portage, Grand Marais, and Lutsen) and the Tofte Branch of the Grand Marais State Bank.
If you would like to help with this program, you can go to any of those locations, pick a tag (or as many as you like) go shopping and bring unwrapped gifts (with tag securely attached) to the location you chose it from by December 16 at 4 p.m. I encourage everyone that can help to please do so! If you have any questions, you can contact me at 387-2660 or 370-1629.
Other Christmas news…. on Monday, December 19 we will be taking a trip to Bentleyville Tour of Lights. We will be leaving the Senior Center at 1 p.m. and starting our evening off with an early dinner at Grandma’s Saloon and Grill (which is offering a 10 percent discount). Next, we will head over to Bentleyville Tour of Lights in Bayfront Park. Bentleyville Tour of Lights is a free annual family holiday light show complete with Santa, holiday music, and fire pits for roasting marshmallows. This magical atmosphere is geared towards young and old with a community mission of raising non-perishable food items. We will then head back home, arriving in Grand Marais at about 9:30 p.m.
The cost for the bus ride is $12, and dinner will be at everyone’s expense. However, there have been some people in our beautiful community that have donated funds for this trip so that some people who can’t afford the cost of this trip, will be able to go.
So join us and stroll through Bentleyville’s holiday light display at Bayfront Festival Park. Enjoy the sounds of the holiday season and experience the beautiful display of lights: Call 387-2660 to reserve your spot.
We are also planning our annual Christmas party, which will be held on Thursday, December 22. Lunch is served at 12 p.m. and will be a turkey dinner with all of the fixings. If you want to join us for lunch that day, just call by 9:30 a.m. to sign up. At 12:30 p.m. we will have a Christmas gift exchange game. To be a part of this, just bring a wrapped gift valued at $10 or less and be ready for lots of laughs. At 1:15 p.m. we will have local people sharing their musical talents while we serve hot apple cider and cookies. All ages are welcome to join in the festivities so come and be a part of a fun-filled day!
In other news, our Intergenerational Reading Program will start again in January, and it will run throughout the end of the school year. We are looking for volunteers to participate in this incredible program that brings generations together through reading and creating memories and friendships that can last a lifetime. Please call me at 387-2660 with any questions or for more information.
