Garden Club works to beautify Grand Marais

At long last summer has arrived, and with it the members of the Grand Marais Garden Club are out planting and weeding! The Garden Club has responsibility for the Memorial Rose Garden near the library. Each year new roses are ordered to replace those that didn’t manage during the winter; usually three or four are added. A memorial book can be found inside the library. Additional names can be added.

The small triangle “First Street Park” was added about four years ago and was planted and is maintained by the Garden Club. Earlier this week several members gathered to weed, prune, and spruce up. The City of Grand Marais is responsible for Harbor Park but members put in time there. And the flower boxes around town are cared for by the Garden Club, with monies coming from the City of Grand Marais.

Both the Grand Marais Garden Club and the West End Garden Club have their flower shows in July; the 27th and the 20th respectively, planned so all can visit both. In both you will see flowers and arrangements from our own gardens.
