The Gala for the Grove, a fundraiser for the Birch Grove Community School, was held Saturday, May 21 at Surfside on Lake Superior. Gowns glittered in the candlelight from elegant tapers held by what else—lovely paper birch logs! The event included champagne, a gourmet dinner, a raffle of fabulous items, and an auction of an interesting variety of items such as collector coins and wine. Above: A teacher, a sponsor, and a student! Birch Grove Teacher Christina Anderson, Birch Grove Gala sponsor Jeremy Ridlbauer of Sundew Systems, and Birch Grove alumnus Jessica Heil enjoyed visiting at the gala. Right: Buzz Flolid was the successful bidder for an amazing auction item—a Deutsche Drahthaar (a German wirehair) puppy, offered by Scott and Linda Waterhouse. The puppy, one of a litter of at least a dozen puppies, is from a long line of hunting dogs. Waterhouse donated the puppy to benefit Birch Grove, with the caveat that the winning bidder would offer it a good home.
