The Cook County Senior Center has a couple of fun fundraisers coming up.

On Friday, July 26 at 7 p.m. the senior center will be hosting a spaghetti dinner fundraiser at the center on Broadway.

On the menu is all you can eat homemade spaghetti, tossed salad, bread, lemonade and coffee. The cost is $8 for advance reservations (paid by 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 23) or $10 at the door. Children 6 and under: $5. Cash and local checks accepted. And of course additional donations are always welcomed and much appreciated.

Bus transportation will be available by reservation within the near Grand Marais area.

As another fundraiser, the Cook County Senior Center will be operating the Kiddy Rides this year during Fisherman’s Picnic and the center is looking for volunteers to operate the rides. There are many different 2 to 2½-hour shifts available. Please call the senior center at (218) 387-2660 or stop by to talk to Kristen or Bev with questions or to volunteer for a time slot.

In addition to fundraising, the senior center has lots of fun planned for July. There will be three Grand Portage Casino Express trips this month, on Tuesday, July 9, Thursday July 18, and Tuesday, July 30. Transportation is free for those who sign up in advance and $5 for those who don’t. In-town pickup is available for a $1 fee.

Those who join the Casino Express receive some free slot play and a coupon for $5 off any entrée in the dining room.

Another “Mystery Trip” is planned too, on Wednesday, July 24, leaving the senior center at 10:00 a.m. Are you adventurous, or do you enjoy surprises and love having fun? Would you like to get out and venture through our beautiful area? Join the senior center for a fun Mystery Tour, followed with an ice cream social! Can you guess where we are going? Last month the Mystery Trip travelled the back roads off the Arrowhead Trail and participants enjoyed delicious burgers and sandwiches at Chicago Bay Marketplace. This trip will include at least three mystery stops including a lunch stop. The cost is only $10 per person for transportation from the Senior Center. What to bring? Money for your lunch, a camera and binoculars.

For more information or to register for any of these upcoming trips, stop in or call the Senior Center at (218) 387-2660.
