Near perfect trail conditions and snow falling led to a full day of great riding as the Cook County Ridge Riders held their 8th annual Fun Run event Feb. 4.
With a record number of 180 participants, it was a successful day for the resorts up the Gunflint Trail as the riders stopped to collect game stamps at Skyport, Trail Center, Windigo, Hungry Jack and Gunflint Pines. Once the riders had their cards full, they returned to the clubhouse to receive their poker hand. Lucky Poker winners were Dillon Bloomquist with a high hand that won him $500, and Mike Ryden, whose low hand netted him $200.
The night was also filled with festivities and raffles with great prizes given out. The Marshal family catered the food, and the music was provided by DJ Tara Nelson of Upbeat Entertainment.
This event is the Ridge Riders’ biggest fundraiser to help raise money for trail maintenance and also a scholarship for a graduating senior who is going to trade or vocational tech school.
“It was a perfect day of riding, and we were so happy to have that many riders out on the trails,” said Andrea Peterson, one of the event organizers. “A lot of riders, I’d say more than half were from out of town. Our goal is to raise money for the club and also get all the hotels gas stations and restaurants business too.
“Our next event is the Feb. 18 Hungry Jack drag races. There will be several classes raced along with a vintage race and or show. There will be prizes for winners in each class and Beaver Island Brewery will be serving their brewed beer. Upbeat Entertainment DJ Tara Nelson will provide entertainment that day. Race sign up starts at 11 a.m. See you there!”
