In anticipation of the 40th anniversary of Pincushion Trails in 2019, plans are under way this summer to give the Pincushion Trail Center a much-needed facelift. Everyone is invited to a Full Moon Pincushion Mountain Hike and Trail Center Revitalization Open House June 27.

Meet at the Pincushion Trail Center at 6:30 p.m. While enjoying appetizers and beverages, you’ll hear about desired improvements to create a welcoming and comfortable space where trail users can gather. There will be opportunities to discuss project details and sign up to be involved. At 7:30 p.m., weather permitting, the group will hike to Pincushion Mountain to view the (almost) full moon rising.

Just as community built Pincushion Trails and the Trail Center, the hope is that the community will continue to come together to revitalize this shared treasure. If you would like to be involved or have suggestions, contact the revitalization team at pincushiontrails@gmail.com. A complete description of the project and wish list is at the North Superior Ski and Run Club website pincushiontrails.org/

It was nearly 40 years ago that a few ambitious locals formed the North Superior Ski and Run Club and began creating ski and hiking trails around Pincushion Mountain. Thanks to their vision and efforts, as well as many others, there now is an amazing trail system of 25 kilometers, used by skiers, skijorers, hikers, runners, bikers, backpackers, and walkers. To honor this historic event there will be a 40th anniversary celebration in fall 2019. Come join in the preparations this summer.
