A full-length feature film is now in production along the North Shore. Headquartered in Two Harbors, the movie is produced by 37th Degree, a New York company.
A press release describes the plot as, “a philosophical mystery masquerading as a thriller set in northeastern Minnesota.”
The working title is “Far, Far Away”, and stars rising Korean actor Seongbeom Jang (“The Battleship Island”, “Secret Forest”, “Beyond Evil”) and newcomer Youngjoo Lim (“Inyeong’s Camcorder”, “The Mentalist”).
Riki McManus, Director of the Upper Midwest Film Office (UMFO) said,
“We are so thrilled that this film has chosen our region to shoot in. Projects like this can bring a nice economic impact to the region.”
The general plot surrounds two Korean tourists who come to Lake Superior to view the Northern Lights, but when Minji disappears, Taemin, who speaks no English, must navigate a foreign land as if his life depends on it.
Head of production is Maximilllan Selim, who is from St. Paul and is very familiar with the North Shore. His mother is from Duluth and grew up in Eveleth. Maximillian noted that he has been visiting the North Shore and Iron Range his whole life.
“I’ve always felt this area is ripe for a story and an untapped aesthetic in the production world and I’ve been thrilled with the local support from the UMFO and the communities we’re shooting in,” he said.
