A man wanted for burglary in Kentucky ended up with several other charges in Minnesota when he attempted to flee local law enforcement officers who were executing a warrant for his arrest. On October 28, 2013, Johnny Lee Prince, 26, was charged with being a fugitive, two counts of possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, fleeing on foot, and gross misdemeanor theft.
Prince was living in Grand Portage when a Cook County Sheriff Deputy and Border Patrol Agent attempted to serve the warrant. According to the law enforcement report, Prince tried to escape arrest by exiting the back door of the house. He was caught by a Border Patrol Agent, but broke loose again and ran about 30 yards into the woods before being caught again.
Prince was searched and according to the report, a plastic baggy containing a white powder/ crystal substance, which he identified as methamphetamine, a hypodermic needle and a small pill box containing eight methadone pills, were found in his pockets.
Prince appeared in court on January 28, 2014 and entered a plea of guilty to the drug possession charges and fleeing the police. The other charges were dismissed.
Prince was sentenced to the state correctional facility at St. Cloud for 17 months, stayed two years with unsupervised probation and conditions.
Prince was extradited to Kentucky to face charges there. If he returns to Minnesota, he is required to check in and comply with conditions of probation.
